So. Halloween happened this year! Unlike last year’s Halloween where I just dressed up as a lame cat, by wearing my Spirithood, because I was too busy packing to go on a stupid trip, this year I spent THREE AND A HALF HOURS putting makeup all over any visible skin that I could reach so that I could be a dead thing.

No, I was not a zombie – though you guys know I love me some zombies – and no, I was not a vampire. Just a dead, slightly victorian looking thing. If I wasnt at a 100+ person social event, I’d have just laid on the floor and pretended to be dead, but If I’d done that, I’d likely have been trampled by a hoard of people, and it’s kind of hard to drink the beers and eat the candies if you are just laying on the floor.

Marsala Face

So, I’m smashing away, trying to get my portfolio up and running.

I’m not happy to just use a portfolio builder, because I like doing the building part of things; I like the ultimate control I have over every single detail. Im building the whole thing myself, with the help of a couple frame works, so you wont see anything exactly like it on the web.

I think that portfolio is a bit of a misnomer. It has the portfolio aspect, but, unbeknownst to my mentor, its also going to be a bit of a personal face to the world. I’m going to have twitter, instagram, and other feeds. Im going to have links to artists that have inspired me forever.

On a technical level, it’s an Angular JS, FfA, JSON, SASS, monstrosity, cobbled together with images served by cloudinary, because cloudinary is awesomesauce.

My goodness! It’s a really cute little game! I like how the narrator speaks, depending on what you do, or at least it seems that way. Maybe the speech could just be map position triggered? Either way, its a nice touch. The artwork is lovely, and has the charm of old spritey-ness, without the tedious 4-different-views only of old sprites.

It’s a really cute little game, on the surface it is at least. Its hard! I died so many times in the first hour while trying to figure out controls, and figure out exactly wtf was going on. the little blue-black, inverted water droplets are adorable! I didn’t realise immediately that they were baddies. Nor did I realise that the shard things were good for you. Still not 100% sure what they ultimately do. The “Kid falls to his death…just kidding” stuff is made of lolz.

Python, Angular, and Foundation

It’s a lot of work. I’ve been bashing away at this stuff since approximately the last week of July, and it’s really hard. I’m not in this alone, but I’m trying not to rely too much on the person who is teaching me, because I’m trying to be independant.

Let’s go back. To learn these languages, I’m working on a library catalogue app for my mother. We have…. just a few books. Nearly four thousand actually. It started out to be an online listing of all the books my family owns, so we stop buying duplicates for each other. It’s evolved into a lot more, partly because I wanted it to, and partially because I overcomplicated it to teach myself more in-depth concepts.

It’s really hard. I’m struggling constantly. My teacher insists I’m doing well, but I don’t know that I believe that. I’m perpetually running into roadblocks and It’s really frustrating and depressing. I’m worried that I’ll fail at this and my poor teacher will have wasted lots of time, and that I’ll just be a disappointment :/

Hey,

I played This War of Mine for a while. It wasn’t too bad. I found good points and bad points. how events transpired.

Let’s start with the bad. I found it got a bit repetitive. Dig, gather, try to eat, try not to die. Repeat. Likely die anyway. I didn’t like that if you tried to be a decent person, you ended up starving or getting shot. I don’t want to kill people or steal from people. If I wanted to do stuff like that, I’d jump on the GTA5 train. No thanks.

Honestly, I stopped streaming because I started dating a viewer in mid-October. This will not ever happen again, as it was one of the dumbest decisions I’ve ever made; I’ve made worse decisions, but it was definitely in the top 5.

So, I think we can all agree that I’m no pro at the Vidja Games.

I just finished Diablo III for the first time. EASY. Holy easy. The hardest part was when I stopped playing for two months, only to come back and have no idea what was going on, so I ran around a desert forest for 6 hours because I didn’t know where I was supposed to be.

I only know of one retailer in Canada that carries the authentic ones, and my friend lives near one, so he will be bringing it to me when he comes to visit! Hey guys, I’m going to be offline for three periods of time throughout October, and one in November.  I’m really sorry!

October 8 – October 13: I’m going to my parents cabin for thanksgiving weekend. By weekend I mean 6 days. That’s totally a weekend, right?

October 15 – October 20: Visiting my sister for the weekend to hide from an unfortunate consequence of my real life. Again, another 6-day weekend. My family plays fast and loose with the term ‘weekend.’

October 22 – October 25: An old friend is coming to visit me for a long weekend. Long weekend means only 3 days in this case.

November 2 – November 9 (tentative): Going to Toronto for personal reasons for the ‘weekend’…. Oh, fuck it. Its not a weekend. It’s not even days bracketing a weekend. I cant fool you this time. It’s just a full on week this time..

So I’ll get maybe 2 days per week :/  I’m so sorry!  I still love you guys. I’m sure I’ll post things on twitter/FB/IG/whatever while I’m away.<3
