I hate/ love/ hate is Sinnerman. Spoiler palooza, because there’s no way to discuss it without.
Basically, Wakako winds you up and sets you off on a gig to help this guy who wants his wife’s murderer dead. Sounds reasonable, right?
Nay. Guy wants you to drive and wants to do the murdering. Okay?
Oops, Murderer’s bodyguard kills guy. Well, fuck. Who is going to pay me now?
And then Bodyguard asks you to help them.
See Murderer cut a deal with Network Lady to have his death captured on a BD, for reasons I do not care to remember. Some martyr shit. You get to accompany Bodyguard, Murderer, and Network Lady on a trip all over hell’s half acre on an apology tour, for his last meal (which is basically a Last Supper tableau), and finally for a round of hand-holding for Murderer right before Murderer asks you to literally nail him to a cross, so they can make a BD so that people can experience how Jesus felt when he was being crucified.
What. The. Everloving. Fuck.
I’m as atheist as they come, and even I thought this was incredibly disrespectful. Jesus wasn’t a murderer. Jesus was betrayed and died for the sake of everyone else. Murderer’s death sentence was a direct result of his own actions, not the result of some betrayal. They are not the same, therefore their mentality in death would be dissimilar, making the entire project a narcissistic money grab on behalf of Network Lady. And the fact that they promised you a load of cash to star as executioner? Fuck that.
The whole quest is disturbing and I hate it. However, CP2077 is set in an incredibly fucked up time, and is populated by a bunch of weirdos who get off on the suffering of others, so Sinnerman feels like a damning commentary on the fucked up mentality of the average person in that world. I hate it, but I don’t. I hate the quest, but the writing is good. I’m conflicted.
Lots of people think it’s a moral dilemma, because they think you’re supposed to want to save this jackass or convince him to live instead of walking to the gallows. I have zero issue with him dying; it’s the insulting false parallel that gets me. Either way, now when I see the quest coming, I murder all three of them before they can speak. Fuck that whole quest. Guy with the dead wife wanted him dead, I want them all dead, and Wakako pays me. So they die. It’s a good/bad quest
